“We the undersigned call on the Labour Party to re-awaken its democratic structures for the remainder of the lockdown.
“The labour movement should consider itself an ‘essential service’ during the CV-19 pandemic. Democratic decision-making meetings are crucial so that party activists can discuss and formulate policies, support and commit resources to trade union and other key worker campaigns, demand that Labour holds the government to account, and hold our own local and national leaderships accountable.
“While some local Labour Parties have begun to meet virtually again, many have not, and meetings are often discussion forums rather than democratic decision-making meetings.
“We call on the party nationally to encourage local branches and CLPs to resume meeting virtually and allow democratic decisions to be taken. If it does not, we encourage local parties to do so anyway.”
