Labour’s announcement of a manifesto commitment to public ownership of broadband provision, and a free service to every home and business, has caused waves.
We republish here, as a PDF, a 2013 pamphlet produced by the Greater London Combined branch of the Communication Workers’ Union, which organises telecoms workers in the capital – making the case for democratic public ownership of the industry and discussing exactly the kind of policy Labour has now proposed (although the CWU GLC proposals go significantly further).
The pamphlet had a major influence in the wider CWU, which in turn promoted these kind of ideas in the Labour Party.
