What Chuka Umunna’s CLP says about his resignation

Chuka Umunna: the Westminster outsider who struggled to be loved ...

This was sent to members of Streatham CLP by their (right-wing) chair. We republish for information and interest. We suspect the verdict of most members in Streatham will be somewhat harsher!

Dear member,

As you are probably aware our MP Chuka Umunna has this morning announced that he has resigned the Labour whip and has left the party. Which will be disappointing for many members involved in his election campaigns over the years.

I am sure that the overwhelming majority of you will agree, the only vehicle for removing the Tory government, and building a more socially just society remains the Labour Party.

Streatham voted overwhelmingly for a Labour MP in 2017, and has voted Labour over the last seven successive general elections. I believe the electorate of Streatham will continue to want to be represented by a Labour MP.

I am therefore writing to Chuka today, thanking him for all his work as our Labour MP, and asking him to immediately call a by election, to allow the people of Streatham to have their say.

    1. It’s obvious that he won’t. He earns £77k a year and won’t give that up easily. He is not an honourable person. Content yourself with seeing him trounced at the next GE along with the rest of them.
